Welcome to family, I use the word “family” because that’s exactly what we are!
At Dragon Martial Arts of Round Lake, you will learn and study the martial art of Taekwondo, which includes self-defense, self-discipline, self-control, self-confidence and self-respect.
You will also learn the “Tenets” of Taekwondo: Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Control, Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. These qualities will follow you out of the classroom and into your everyday life. It is through these tenets that you will become stronger in mind, body and spirit and able to achieve your personal goals while facing any challenges that may come your way.

Master Sergio Hernandez
Master Sergio Hernandez is the Owner and Head Instructor of Dragon Martial Arts of Round Lake located in Round Lake, IL. The newly established school opened it’s doors in 2016.
Head Instructor Hernandez is currently ranked 4rd DAN. He received this prestigious 4th DAN Kukkiwon certification under his new Grand Master Kwon. Prior to opening his new school, Master Sergio Hernandez had been trained and mentored by Grand Master Yong MokLee for over 12 years. He spent the first 7 years as Grand Master Lee’s student and spent the last 5 ½ years as his Head Instructor before opening his new school.
Master Sergio Hernandez has a breadth of knowledge and experience with daily instructing as well as participating in and coaching his students at numerous Taekwondo tournaments across the Chicagoland and Milwaukee areas. He has also devoted an extensive amount of time coaching and working with various Taekwondo Demo & Sparring Teams.
Assistant Instructors Raul Astudillo and Mireya Astudillo
Raul Astudillo and Mireya Astudillo have both recently been promoted to rank of Assistant Instructor. This brother and sister martial arts team are both currently ranked Deputy 3rd DAN with Kukkiwon World Taekwondo headquarters.
Both Raul and Mireya have been dedicated students training under Master Sergio Hernandez for over 11 years, both at his former school and now at Dragon Martial Arts of Round Lake. Assistant Instructors Raul and Mireya can be found in the dojang several times a week assisting with a variety of classes.
In addition to fulfilling their current roles, they are also both very active martial arts students, dedicating many hours each week to their own training and further developing their own skill sets. In addition to assisting with classes, they are both lead members of the Dragon Martial Arts of Round Lake’s Sparring and Demonstration Team.

Assistant Instructor / Business Associate Jackie Mortensen
Assistant Instructor Jackie Mortensen was recently promoted to this rank after 8+ years of martial arts training with Master Sergio Hernandez. In addition to the role of Assistant Instructor, she is also Master Sergio Hernandez’s current Business Associate at Dragon Martial Arts of Round Lake, assisting him with many business tasks and projects within the community.
Assistant Instructor Jackie, her son Hayden and husband Jeff have all been long time students of Master Sergio Hernandez’s. Prior to Sergio’s promotion to 4th DAN, they trained under his leadership at their former school and now at Dragon Martial Arts of Round Lake.
Jackie and her family are all currently ranked Deputy 3rd DAN with Kukkiwon World Taekwondo headquarters.
Assistant Instructor Bill Wayman
Assistant Instructor Bill Wayman was recently promoted to this rank after 10+ years of martial arts training with Master Sergio Hernandez. Assistant Instructor Bill Waymanis currently ranked 2rd DAN with Kukkiwon World Taekwondo headquarters. He has been a dedicated student training under Master Sergio Hernandez for over 10 years, both at his former school and now at Dragon Martial Arts of Round Lake.
